Marriage and Family

All priests, deacons, parish staff, volunteer marriage preparation mentor couples, and NFP instructors are invited to our second annual Marriage & Family In-Service. This year our theme will be on the Marriage Catechumenate. The event will focus on the archdiocesan plan to assist parishes in implementing the guidelines of the Catechumenal Pathways for Married Life, the 2022 Vatican document on the marriage catechumenate. Presentations will be offered by archdiocesan staff from the Marriage & Family Evangelization team and local pastors, plus there will be break-out sessions and time for brainstorming creative ways to implement the marriage catechumenate in parish life. The schedule will begin with Mass, and include a light breakfast and lunch.

Registration is $10 per person. Please RSVP no later than October 6, 2023.

Questions? Contact Adriana Vásquez at avasquez@catholicaoc.org.

All who serve in any capacity with parish marriage preparation are invited to attend a free training on May 4, 2023 at St. Susanna from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It will be livestreamed via Zoom for those who wish to participate remotely.

Offered by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, the training will feature presentations by the Chancellor and the Marriage and Family Evangelization team on recommendations for the marriage preparation timeline, an explanation of the dispensations/permissions needed for various situations, the forms needed for the nuptial file, and time for a Q & A. A light breakfast will be provided. No child care will be available.

There will be Mass at 8:15 am at St. Susanna for participants wishing to attend Mass before the training starts.

In-person registrations are on a first-come, first-serve basis. When the tickets sell out, anyone still wishing to register to attend virtually should email Adriana Vasquez at avasquez@catholicaoc.org no later than May 1.

The third annual St. Gerard Morning of Reflection is a morning of prayer, reflection, and community for married couples experiencing a season of infertility. The event will include Holy Mass with the opportunity to venerate a first class relic of St. Gerard, the patron saint of mothers, followed by presentations, and fellowship.

This is a free event. Please RSVP no later than October 14, 2023. Walk-ins are welcomed. A light breakfast will be provided following Mass.

As you prepare for marriage, we invite you to be a part of the Genesis Marriage Community, where you will meet other engaged and newly married couples as well as married couples from around the Archdiocese of Cincinnati who want to share this exciting journey of married life with you.

It all begins with GENESIS, the one-day retreat for engaged couples. On the GENESIS retreat, also known as Pre-Cana, you will deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ and one another. You will meet other engaged couples as you begin the journey towards your wedding day where “authentic married love is caught up into divine love.”

NOTE: YOU ONLY NEED ONE TICKET PER COUPLE!

A certificate will be given at the completion of the course. Interested couples must have the written recommendation by their pastor to enroll in the course. This course will be held both in-person at St. Ignatius Loyola in Cincinnati as well as virtually. Please note, babysitting will not be available.

Class Dates: Sept. 6 & 20, Oct. 4 & 18, and Nov. 15.

Marriage and Family Leaders’ Statement of Good Standing: Parish leaders witness by their lives to the truth and goodness of the Church’s teachings on marriage and family, and must be in good standing in their parish. If parish leaders are married, their marriage should be blessed by Christ, i.e. they should be sacramentally married. Those who are single (never married) or separated from their spouse and living a chaste life may attend the course with the recommendation of their parish priest, who will vouch for the individual’s good standing in the parish. All individuals who are in an irregular marriage situation may contact Adriana Vasquez at 513-263-6648 for guidance on whether or not it is the right time to become a parish marriage and family leader.
